Modern Dip

While the earliest forms of dipping tobacco was applied to the gums with a stick, modern dip is much easier to use. All you have to do is take a pinch the size of a dime and place it in the lower lip, between the cheek and gums. Placement has changed over the years with the first place to put the dip being off to the side of the lower jaw, just in front of and below the molars. The common place to put the pinch today is right in the front, under the front teeth. We think the move was made because less saliva is generated when the tobacco is away from the back of the jaw but, this is entirely up to the user.
